Trinity North Bay Worship cancelled March 15th – Covid-19 Concern

Dear Trinity Friends and Family,

As many of you know, there has been considerable action taken to slow the spread of the Corona Virus across our country and in our community.  Trinity’s Board has made the decision to cancel the Church service tomorrow, Sunday, March 15.  We want to ensure that all our people, including our most vulnerable members, are kept as safe as possible.  The Board will be meeting via tele-conference on Monday, March 16 to discuss further actions – which may include closing the Church until April. This is in line with what other churches, schools and organizations have already initiated.  In a time when there is much uncertainty and concern, we want to assure you that we will continue to offer pastoral care and emergent outreach support to those who need it. Our food bank programs will continue to provide food with special attention to the health and safety of all involved. Please keep an eye on your email and our social media sites in the next few days as we continue to assess how we can be together as a community.  We will be exploring ways that we can worship and pray together in our own homes via technology.

Jim Jackson, Acting Chair of the Canadian Shield Regional Council offers these words:

During this time of Lent, we may need to fast from our normal routine. As with every lent, this is a time for both reflection, prayer, and contemplation. If we have to let go of gatherings for fellowship, meetings, and worship or just change how we greet each other, we may want to consider Lenten practice and reflect on what it means to be in community together.  Easter will come.  With the resurrection, Hope breaks in.

Update re. Corona Virus

Good morning Trinity families,
As I mentioned in the previous post, we are assessing the situation on a day to day basis.  This Sunday, our worship service will continue as planned – with a few changes that you will notice when you arrive.

 1)  Greeters will greet you in their usual friendly manner but without a handshake

2)  In the sanctuary, a card table be set up at each of the two doorways where you can pick up your church bulletin and Lenten offering envelope. An usher will be at each table should you need any assistance.

3)  Wooden collection plates will also be on the table. People can put their collection money and envelopes in the wooden offering bowls. If you are not on PAR, this may be a good time to consider doing so!

We will continue to monitor our public health and United Church of Canada guidelines and make any necessary measures – which may include having to close for a week or more.  Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.  We will keep you updated as things change.
Blessings to each of you – to those travelling for March Break, travelling mercies!

Trinity this week – Lent 3

Hello Trinity Friends,
I am sure that many of you are seeing the news and recognizing that the level of concern for the Corona Virus is rising.  At the moment, we are keeping an eye on the situation and will assess if any changes need to be made on a day to day basis.  We are taking extra precautions to ensure that we do not spread illness – disinfecting, providing hand sanitizer and asking our greeters to greet with a friendly greeting that does not involve shaking hands!  We ask that anyone who has symptoms of illness stay home (as they should any time they are sick).  The United Church of Canada has an emergency preparedness plan in place which can be found on their website should you wish to read it.

Trinity this week – First Sunday in Lent

Hello Trinity Friends. This Sunday is the first Sunday in Lent.  We begin, as always, with a Communion Service. We will be installing and recognizing our new Board during the service as well.
This year, throughout the Lent and leading into Easter (February 26th-April 12th) Trinity’s worship will open singing “Needed Time” with different musical leadership and accompaniment. “Needed Time” is an example of the “Holy Blues,” written by “Lightnin’ Hopkins.” This Sunday, Marcel MacDonald and Rev. Ted will introduce the song—we hope that other leaders will volunteer to lead the same song in subsequent weeks!
Also throughout this Lent season, our bulletin covers will feature prayerful “Contemplative photography” submitted by members and friends of Trinity. Contemplative photography often features everyday imagery, and is meant to help us with “eyes to see”– with heightened freshness or depths of appreciation. This Sunday’s photographs both feature a serendipitous “Sunshine fish.” Such a fish is long associated with Christ because in the early centuries of the faith, the Greek word for fish (“ichthys”) worked as a secretive acronym, and a profession of faith: “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour.”
