Trinity this week – St. Francis Sunday and Orange Shirts – Sept 25, 2022

Hello Trinity Friends,
This Sunday join us for St. Francis Sunday.  You will be invited to bring a token of your special animal friend or an important stuffie to be blessed. Worship begins at 10:30 am and will be livestreamed to YouTube Trinity’s Worship.  You may also watch on Cogeco’s YourTV a week later as well.  Check local listings for the time.
A reminder that next Sunday October 2nd is World Wide Communion Sunday.  We join with Christians around the world to celebrate Communion around a global table.
Many churches across Canada will be honouring Orange Shirt Day in worship this Sunday September 25th.  You are encouraged to wear Orange this Sunday as a sign of support to all those who were affected and continue to be affected by Residential Schools.
On Friday September 30th, Trinity United Church offices will be closed to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which was established in 2008 to document the effects of residential schools on Indigenous people, released a report in 2015 with 94 Calls to Action. One action called for the federal government to establish a statutory holiday to honour residential school survivors, their families and their communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of reconciliation. Last year, the Government of Canada passed legislation making September 30th a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Here are just a few ways you can do that.• Wear Orange and visit orangeshirtday.org to learn about Orange Shirt Day
• Attend the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event at the Indigenous Friendship Centre on September 30th between 10 am and 3 pm – All welcome!
• Watch the National Truth and Reconciliation Ceremony in Ottawa– Remembering the Children at 1pm (Check local listings)
